Sony Music UK has a new signing in the person of singer and rapper Shallipopi. Details of the adoption announced early this week by an independent monitoring outlet are scanty.
The Nigerian star who worked on a recent collaboration with Afrobeats star, King Promise, is yet to comment on the deal but his fans are happy for him.
Born on April 12, 2000, the trendy performer is officially as Crown Uzama but prefers to be called by his stage name Shallipopi.
He rose to fame with his debut single Elon Musk in 2023, which entered the TurnTable chart in his home country. His debut studio album Presido La Pluto (2023) reached number one on the TurnTable Top 50 and debuted on Apple Music’s top 100 albums.
His second studio album, Shakespopi, released in 2024, became his second chart-topping album. The lead single ASAP on that record reached number one on the TurnTable Top 100.
The 24-year-old started his career creating and sharing freestyles on TikTok and other social media platforms and had his breakthrough with his debut single.
In June 2023, Apple Music announced Shallipopi as a featured artist in its Up Next program in Nigeria. The singer-songwriter later released the remix of Elon Musk featuring Fireboy DML and Zlatan on June 30 and followed with Ex-Convict around the same period.
On July 11, 2023, Shallipopi released his Extended Play, Planet Pluto, and went on to launch his record label Plutomania Records.
Other singles credited to Shallipopi include Things on Things, Oscroh (Pepperline), Evil Receive, all released between October and November 2023.
In February this year, Sony Music signed award-winning music producer M.O.G Beatz, who would tap into his expertise to execute meaningful projects for the entertainment company.
MoG who began an incredible journey with the leading international music publisher was impressed with the partnership.
