Phoenix-born singer Kacy Hill has recently opened up about her tumultuous experience under Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music and Def Jam labels.

During a recent performance, she took a moment to share her struggles and the rollercoaster journey she endured while trying to break free from her contract.

The singer began by recounting a bewildering episode when Def Jam funded the cover art for her second album, only to backtrack and express uncertainty about retaining her on the label. She humorously recalled her reaction, feeling equally ambivalent about the situation, likening it to being in a “situationship” with Def Jam Records.

The singer faced a significant hurdle when Def Jam informed her that any release from her contract required Kanye West’s approval. This proved daunting, as Kanye had abandoned email communication and lacked an assistant, making him almost unreachable.

Kacy Hill spent six months attending Kanye’s Sunday Service performances in hopes of a chance encounter. Her persistence paid off when she finally secured a face-to-face meeting with the elusive rapper in his Calabasas office. Kanye’s initial bewilderment at her presence quickly turned to cooperation when she explained her predicament. With a simple text message from Kanye, her contract ordeal was resolved.

In a surprising twist, Hill played some tracks from her second album for Kanye, sparking a renewed interest in her music. Kanye’s response was unexpected and amusing, as he suggested transforming her songs into gospel tracks, much to the audience’s delight.

Reflecting on the entire saga, Kacy Hill emphasized the surreal nature of her experience, asserting that the reality was even crazier than she could articulate.

Kacy Hill’s journey with G.O.O.D. Music began in 2014 when Kanye West discovered her talent while she was a backup dancer on his Yeezus Tour.

She released her debut EP, Bloo, in 2015 and her first album, Like a Woman, two years later. Although she never recorded a track with Kanye, Hill collaborated with prominent artists like Travis Scott on 90210 and Kid Cudi on Releaser.
