Akeelah And The Bee star, Keke Palmer and Darius Jackson, who have a 1-year-old son named Leo, had a turbulent split last year.
The actress has however gained a lot of self-awareness since her breakup with ex-boyfriend Darius Jackson.
Palmer claims that after all of the introspection, she has discovered that it’s acceptable to wonder if being married or in a relationship is really what she wants to do.
In the most recent episode of her podcast, Baby, This is Keke Palmer, the actress discussed the subject and had an insightful talk with actress-comedian Amy Poehler.
The duo discussed going further into the things or experiences they have rejected in their lives.
Relationships were what mattered most to Palmer, particularly now that she and Jackson were parents to a 1-year-old. She also didn’t know if she wanted to reenter a marriage or relationship after experiencing a lot of things.
“Is a relationship right for me as a woman as we age? Is getting married important to me? Palmer posed a hypothetical question.
“In terms of who I believed I was, my personality has changed significantly. I was like, ‘I’m going to get married at 25,’ like, at 18. Do you understand what I’m saying? After that, I realized that I had only ever had one boyfriend. Then you think, ‘He’s insane. As of right now, I’m 27 years old and have five boyfriends. Not that I’ve even noticed I have to choose one. It was always this different thing, you know? Therefore, it’s fascinating to see how our experiences keep challenging the people we aspire to be.”
The statements were made about a month before Palmer’s scheduled hearing, during which a judge was supposed to decide whether to uphold Palmer’s restraining order against Jackson.
That day, Jackson had another hearing scheduled concerning the restraining order request he had made against Palmer, claiming she was the one who was abusive in their relationship.
However, as requested by Palmer and Jackson in court pleadings dated May 22, the sessions have been withdrawn from the court’s calendar.
A hearing on the matter is planned for December 2025, as per records available online.
Palmer spoke candidly on social media in January, discussing how she had been betrayed and why she didn’t trust “a coward.”
Palmer stated, “..and if they can keep you close enough, maybe they can use you when the time is right without having to prove their loyalty.”
The host of Password wrote, “It’s so much easier to be honest; no one trusts a coward.”
Palmer said on social media that she had “never been so happy” after her breakup in January.
“Already 2024 has started off on the vibes I was looking for more experiences and more enjoying what this beautiful world has to offer,” she wrote.
“Observe my smile! Not even myself recognizes me! I’m on cloud nine now, and I’ve connected with this girl again,” the actress signed off.
