Tyla’s debut album has now reached one billion streams on Spotify, barely three months after it was released. With this new record, she has become the first African female to attain this milestone.
Independent monitoring outlet, WeTalkSound, put out the figures early this week. It, however, did not seem much of a surprise as the album had been on an upward trajectory since its initial days.
The self-titled album premiered Friday, March 22, 2024, with several guest features, including Tems on the song…..
In its first week after the premiere, the album reached the No. 1 spot on iTunes in the United States with over seven million streams worldwide. It also pushed Tyla’s monthly listeners on Spotify was 30.1 million at the time.
The new milestone of one billion streams could pave the way for bigger achievements for the Grammy winner who continues to put more effort in her craft.
The 14-track project had both new and some previously released singles, with the tracklist including collaborations with artistes like Travis Scott, Kelvin Momo, Tems, Gunna, Skillibeng, and Becky G.
Tyla, who currently has several nominations in the upcoming Black Entertainment Television, has been speaking about a possible collaboration with the legendary Janet Jackson.
Speaking in a recent interview on MTV, last month, the Water star named Janet Jackson as one of the many personalities who gave feedback on her mega-hit record, adding that she was “a big Janet Janet Jackson fan.”
The 22-year-old touched on aspects of her musical journey, explaining that her debut Tyla album, had about 130 songs before it was narrowed down to 14 tracks.
“It was kind of hard because my heart was literally screaming out these songs…It is difficult narrowing your babies down but the way the album came together was the perfect story,” she stated.
