Rapper Ice Cube claims to be the creator of the greatest diss track ever. During a recent show, the legendary rapper boldly declared that his infamous track No Vaseline stands unmatched in the genre’s history.

As tensions rise between Kendrick Lamar and Drake, the rapper’s declaration fuels the ongoing conversation about the best diss tracks in hip-hop.

At the show, Ice Cube didn’t hold back. He confidently proclaimed, “No Vaseline is the best diss song in hip-hop history.

He emphasized the track’s impact, noting that as a solo artist, he took on and dismantled four members of N.W.A and their manager in one fell swoop. “You can’t beat that,” he said with conviction.

Despite the harsh lyrics from over 30 years ago, Ice Cube respected his former group members, extending love to Dr. Dre, MC Ren, DJ Yella, and the late Eazy-E.

This isn’t the first time Ice Cube has championed his diss track. Last year, in a conversation with DJ Whoo Kid, he criticized a ranking by The Root that placed No Vaseline in third place, behind 2Pac’s Hit ‘Em Up. Ice Cube questioned how a track that featured multiple artists could outrank his solo effort.

Fellow California rapper Glasses Malone backed him up, agreeing with Cube’s ranking. Snoop Dogg also echoed the sentiment, declaring that nothing comes close to “No Vaseline.” DJ Tony Neal, founder of the Core DJs collective, acknowledged the impact of Hit ‘Em Up but still gave props to Cube’s track.

Released in October 1991 on Ice Cube’s second solo album, Death Certificate, No Vaseline directly responded to his former group’s disparaging remarks about him.

Its release marked a pivotal moment in hip-hop history, leading to Dr. Dre’s departure from N.W.A and the group’s eventual dissolution.
