Hip-hop icon Rakim is set to triumphantly return with his first album in 15 years, God’s Network: Reb7rth, slated for release on July 26.
This highly anticipated project, revealed by the album’s A&R/executive producer Matthew “M80” Markoff on Instagram, boasts an impressive lineup of rap legends from past and present.
The album’s lead single, Rebirth, featuring Kurupt and Masta Killa, will drop on June 21, offering fans an early taste of what’s to come.
The all-star supporting cast includes big names like Snoop Dogg, Method Man, B.G., Kool G Rap, Canibus, Skyzoo, KXNG Crooked, Chino XL, 38 Spesh, and Planet Asia.
The album will also pay tribute to several late greats, with appearances from DMX, Nipsey Hussle, Prodigy, and Fred the Godson.
M80 expressed his excitement on social media, hinting at the “insanity” of the upcoming release and praising Rakim’s return to the studio.
This project marks the first time Rakim has produced an album in full, adding an extra layer of anticipation for fans of the legendary MC.
God’s Network: Reb7rth follows Rakim’s 2009 album The Seventh Seal, which came after a decade-long hiatus.
Rakim overlooked for induction into hall of fame
Known for his low profile, Rakim recently made headlines alongside his former partner Eric B. after being repeatedly overlooked for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The duo congratulated the inductees, including Tribe Called Quest and Mary J. Blige, and remained optimistic about their future induction.
Despite the exciting album news, Rakim has faced controversy regarding his European tour. A promoter expressed frustration over the rapper’s decision to cancel the tour for the third consecutive year, blaming reasons such as burnout and travel issues.
Rakim’s manager clarified that the artist’s refusal to fly has posed significant logistical challenges, and attempts to secure alternative travel arrangements by boat or ground transportation proved unsuccessful.
