The Coalition of Orphanages and Children’s Homes in Nigeria has written to Davido, acknowledging receipt of the singer’s generous donation to the less privileged in the country.
In February this year, the songwriter and philanthropist delivered on his promise to donate 300 million Naira (equivalent to $197,000) to orphanages in his home country. On Wednesday, February 21, 2024, he posted screenshots of the disbursement to the beneficiary institutions.
The orphanages, in an appreciation letter, shared on Thursday, May 30, 2024, thanked the Na Money crooner for the “profound impact” made in their lives. Some 42 orphanages benefitted from the donation.
Leadership of the care homes, in a statement, said no government or individual has ever provided them such “magnanimous support.”
The coalition of orphanages wrote: “We are very happy to note that no other Nigerian has ever done this [donation] for the orphanages, nor has the government given us such magnanimous support before.
“This support which is a demonstration of your commitment to social responsibility and loving care to these forgotten Nigerian children will go a very long way in making a profound impact in their lives. These less privileged children and orphans are grateful that you have done this for them…” the institutions noted.
Davido’s followers have since commended the gesture and other social support the megastar continued to provide to the less privileged.
The multi-talented star, with four studio albums to his credit, recently said he was looking forward to a brighter future in music journey.
On Wednesday, May 8, 2024, he premiered a new video for the song Kante off his 2023 Timeless album and thanked his fans for joining him on his ‘Timeless’ journey.
“…Your support has been the backbone of this era. As we close this chapter, know that you fueled our journey. The “Timeless” era is ending, but our story continues. New chapters, new music, new milestones await and I can’t wait to step into them with you. We are about to go bigger than ever,” he shared in a post. Sources say Davido’s fifth studio album will be ready soon with 15 tracks and about six guest artistes featured on the project.
