Patronage of country music is recording an increase in the United Kingdom this year, according to new research on music trends in the country.
According to monitoring outlet Official Chart, the year 2024 has been “the year of the country music renaissance” in the United Kingdom.
By mid-year 2024, country music reportedly produced sales and streaming equivalent of 11.5 million compared to 6.9 million around the same period in 2023.
Songs like I Had Some Help, the collaborative single by Post Malone and Morgan Wallen – which premiered live at a country music festival, Stagecoach, are credited for being a part of the surge in figures.
The record reported reached number two on the UK Singles Chart together with Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter. A few other country songs made popular on TikTok were also cited.
Apart from Post Malone and Beyonce, other singers like Lana Del Rey are following the country path, as she is set to release her 10th album titled Lasso later this year.
It will be recalled that Beyoncé made history with her new album, Cowboy Carter, which reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums list, since the inception of the rankings in January 1964.
The Halo hitmaker also became the first female to simultaneously occupy the top three slots in the poll when three of the set’s tracks debuted at Nos. 1, 2, and 3 on the Hot Country Tracks list.
Her Texas Hold Em single not only topped the Billboard Country Songs Chart but reached the top spot on Spotify Global.
According to figures put out by Spotify Data (not an official affiliate of Spotify) the song had spent its second day at the number one spot on the streaming platform with 6.52 million streams as of February 25, 2024.
