Cassie has spoken out following the release of a video showing her ex-boyfriend Sean “Diddy” Combs assaulting her in a hotel corridor.

The 37-year-old singer and model wrote on Instagram “Open your heart to believing victims the first time” and declared that she would “always be recovering from my past.”.

Her comments come after a video that CNN was able to obtain a few weeks ago showed rapper and record executive Combs punching and kicking a the female star in a Los Angeles hotel hallway.

In the CCTV clip from March 5, 2016, Combs is seen beating his former mentee and girlfriend while only sporting a white towel.

The R&B singer, who dated Combs from 2007 to 2018, stated the following on Thursday:

“I’m grateful for the love and support I’ve received from my friends, family, strangers, and those I haven’t met yet. My younger self now has a place to settle and feels safe thanks to the outpouring of affection. However, this is just the start. Domestic violence is the issue. It broke me down into someone I never thought I would become. With a lot of hard work, I am better today, but I will always be recovering from my past. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to take this matter seriously.”

“It takes a lot of courage to tell the truth in a circumstance when you were helpless; therefore, that is all I ask of everyone: please open your heart to believing victims the first time.”

“I offer my hand to those who are still living in fear,” she continued. Don’t cut them off; reach out to them. Nobody should have to bear this burden alone. It’s a never-ending healing path, but I am so grateful for your support. I’m grateful. I love you always, Cassie.”

After the video was released online, Combs, also known as P Diddy and Puff Daddy, said the CCTV footage was “inexcusable” and that he was “disgusted.”
