Afrobeats singer Adekunle Gold is among the top African acts to entertain guests at the 2024 African Basketball League (BAL) playoffs in Kigali, Rwanda later this month.
The event is expected to attract celebrities in sports and music and will feature various local and international performances.
According to organisers, the opening ceremony will take place on May 24, 2024, with Adekunle Gold billed to show up during the halftime show of the opening game, featuring Libya’s Al Ahly and South Africa’s Cape Town Tigers.
A grand finale of the tournament scheduled for June 1, 2024, will also feature other local acts who will treat audiences to an immersive experience alongside mixes from top DJs in Kigali.
The Basketball Africa League (BAL), is a partnership between the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and the National Basketball Association (NBA).
It is a new professional league featuring 12 club teams from across Africa.
Three out of four teams are said to have secured their spots in the playoffs and finals, which will take place at the BK Arena, an indoor stadium with a capacity to seat 10,000 people.
In April, Adekunle Gold updated his discography with a new Afrosound titled Rodo, and it will perhaps be one of the many songs he is expected to perform at the show.
The tune was Adekunle’s third single for the year 2024 after releasing the rendition called the Life I Chose, one of the tracks from his fifth studio album, Tequila Ever After.
It would be recalled that the singer-songwriter put on a show at the OVO Arena in London in March, this year with his wife, Simi, as a special guest
