The ongoing feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake has taken an unexpected twist. A rumor that Universal Music Group (UMG) was stepping in to mediate the situation has proven completely false.
This theory, which gained traction on social media earlier this week, has been debunked by TMZ. Kendrick and Drake have contracts with UMG through various subsidiaries and licensing agreements. However, sources have confirmed that there has been no meeting between Drake, Kendrick, and UMG, and the entire scenario appears to be a fabrication.
Despite the claims of anonymous social media accounts, UMG has had no involvement in the dispute. TMZ’s sources have stated that the music conglomerate would not interfere in such a situation. Interestingly, the feud has benefited UMG, with the streaming numbers for both artists skyrocketing in recent weeks.
An anonymous social media user had suggested that UMG wanted Kendrick Lamar to apologize to Drake for a derogatory remark, alleging that the feud was causing financial losses for the record company and other brands associated with Drake, such as Nike. This claim, however, has been dismissed as baseless.
The same source also claimed that UMG had acknowledged Drake was on the losing end of the feud and had pressured Kendrick to retract his statement. This, too, has been proven to be false.
Drake addressed Kendrick’s allegations in his latest diss track, The Heart Part 6, which responded to Kendrick’s tracks Meet the Grahams and Not Like Us. In the song, Drake denies inappropriate behavior and expresses his disgust at the accusations. He also addresses the scrutiny over his relationship with Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown while making a reference to Kendrick’s fiancée and baby mother, Whitney Alford.
