After a week-long delay due to the L.A. wildfires, the 2025 Oscar nominations list finally drops.

Among this year’s honorees, Black creatives and performers are commanding attention with powerful performances, thought-provoking screenplays, and unforgettable contributions to cinema.

From Cynthia Erivo’s magical Wicked performance to Colman Domingo, who earned a nomination in the Actor in a Leading Role category for his work in Sing Sing

However, Denzel Washington, who was highly favored to land a nomination, did not make the Actor in a Supporting Role category for his devious portrayal of Macrinus in Gladiator II.

The nominations for the 97th Academy Awards were announced on Thursday, January 23, from the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California.

it is scheduled to take place on March 2, 2025, at the iconic Dolby Theatre in Ovation Hollywood, and it will be hosted by Conan O’Brien.
